An Emotional Journey Navigating Breast Cancer

Sherrel, breast cancer survivor

Three years ago, Sherrel discovered a lump during her self-breast exam. “I really wasn’t worried about it, which is crazy to think now,” she says. She was a healthy, 37-year-old wife and mother of two. Roper St. Francis Healthcare recommends women begin getting mammograms at age 40, so she had three years to go. But, she decided to get it checked out. She recalls standing in her office, feeling out of body the day she got her results. “Your results are positive for invasive ductal carcinoma,” the radiologist told her, “we need to get you in to see a surgeon.” Hear Sherrel’s story.
