Matters of the Heart

Do you know the leading killer of American women? The answer is heart disease; however, according to results from a 2019 American Heart Association (AHA) survey, only 44 percent of women know that fact. Since awareness is a key to prevention, that’s a staggering statistic—even more so because it’s down from 65 percent of women polled in the AHA’s 2009 survey.

  1. In addition to heart disease awareness, it would be helpful to publish information about the preventative benefits of a whole food, plant based diet.

  2. I have dizziness and chest pain occasionally. I feel pretty healthy and walk about 8,000 to 11,000 steps each day. I am very careful about my diet and avoid all fatty foods. I am 78 and weigh 116 lbs. I don’t eat meat. I see my doctor once each year. Am I at risk for a heart attack or stroke?
