Roper St. Francis Physician Partners Colorectal Surgery
A pioneer in robotic colorectal surgery in the Lowcountry, Dr. Lagares-García has helped advance minimally invasive techniques that offer patients smaller incisions, less pain, shorter hospital stays and faster recoveries.
“Milestones are only important because of the team that believed in the program and elevated it to be nationally renowned,” Dr. Lagares-García. “This achievement represents the dedication, collaboration and constant pursuit of better outcomes for our patients.”
Roper Hospital was the first hospital in South Carolina to introduce the da Vinci robotic surgical system in 2007. Since then, surgeons across Roper St. Francis Healthcare have performed thousands of robotic procedures throughout the Lowcountry, establishing the system as a regional leader in advanced surgical care.
Robotic technology at Roper St. Francis Healthcare is used to treat a wide range of complex conditions, including colorectal cancer, inflammatory bowel disease, lung cancer, gallbladder disease, prostate cancer, endometriosis and bariatric conditions. The health system continues to invest in advanced surgical innovation to enhance precision, safety and patient outcomes.
Dr. Lagares-García credits the program’s early success to the dedicated surgical teammates who helped build the robotic platform from the ground up, often working late hours and continuously refining techniques to improve quality outcomes.
Today, that expertise extends beyond colorectal surgery to include robotic hernia repair, thoracic surgery, urology and surgical oncology. As part of Roper St. Francis Healthcare’s 2030 Strategic Plan, the organization continues to modernize technology and recruit top clinical talent, ensuring patients across the region have access to cutting-edge care close to home.
